{Day 7} The Next Step

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”

Hebrews 11:8-10 (ESV – emphasis added)

Often, it seems we spend so much time worrying about, praying over, and attempting to discern our {God given} callings that we completely miss it.

We miss the obedience of simply taking the next step on our faith journey.

Abraham didn’t even know where he was going, but when God called, when God revealed the next step, when God said “go”, Abraham went. By faith. Trusting in the God he knew to be the “designer and builder” of his future destination.

Just like Abraham, we don’t have to fully understand God’s calling – His entire plan, His final purpose – to go. We are simply called to respond in obedience when God reveals the next step.

“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you” … So Abram went, as the Lord had told him…” – Genesis 12:1, 4 (ESV)
