“The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.”
John 1:35-37 (ESV)
Andrew, Peter, James, John, Phillip, Nathaneal …
The rest of the 12 disciples. Those closest to Jesus Christ.
When they received the invitation, they followed immediately.
Not because they knew the future plans.
Not because they knew it would be free of risk and trial.
Not because they knew no fear.
But because they knew the One who spoke the command. He had been identified as Messiah, and they believed … trusted … had confidence that He was who He said He was and was worthy to be followed, loved, obeyed.
When the Lord calls, when He directs the next step … though the direction may be unknown to us, He knows … and His invitation demands a response.
And the time to follow is always now.
“Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.’ And immediately they left their nets and followed him.”
Mark 1:16-18 (ESV)
